Evaluate your existing quality management system.
The guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the Association for Applied Hygiene (VAH) require an annual inspection of the disinfection performance of the wash process for potentially infected laundry. The responsibility of the laundry with respect to its clients and patients is correspondingly high, since only hygienically spotless laundry may be used in circulation. Thanks to Miele’s ProHygiene test the requirements of the above-mentioned guidelines are met. The ProHygiene test also offers you security and can underpin your existing quality management system or offer you support in the introduction of quality management systems.
Ideally this test can be carried out as part of the servicing of your washing machines. This service is not merely a good prerequisite for a safe wash and disinfection procedure, but it also offers you optimum service and the high availability of your appliances.
The PROHygiene test comprises
Thermoelectric test
Microbiological test
Evaluation and documentation
In addition to the microbiological analysis you can also opt for a water analysis and a contact slide test.

Use of appropriate and calibrated data loggers during the wash procedure
As the manufacturer of commercial automatic washing machines, Miele offers you a thermoelectric test of the settings of your disinfection parameters as part of the PROHygiene test. Appropriate and calibrated data loggers are washed together with the laundry and record the temperatures and the times they were maintained. These data are evaluated and documented.
Proof of disinfecting standard in the wash procedure
The ProHygiene test serves as proof of the disinfecting standard in the wash procedure by means of a bio indicator The bio indicator contains both the human pathogen test germs Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Enterococcus faecium ATCC 6057 with the defined initial bacterial count. We chose this procedure since bio indicators with a semi-permeable membrane [closed system] do not meet the requirements of the RKI and VAH. However, with the PROHygiene test both these vital guidelines are met precisely.
The germ carriers are 1cm² cotton swabs that are contaminated with a germ suspension in blood and subsequently dried. A test item comprises six germ carriers. The bio indicator is added to the batch of laundry that is to be washed in the programme to be tested. The number of test germs must be reduced after the disinfecting wash procedure in accordance with the RKI and VAH guidelines. The guidelines specify a reduction in LOG7, compliance with which is verified by the PROHygiene test.
The evaluation is subsequently carried out by the independent wfk-Institut für Angewandte Forschung GmbH, Krefeld.
Evaluation of the microbiological test
The evaluation of the microbiological test is carried out by our partner laboratory wfk-Institut für Angewandte Forschung GmbH, Krefeld. After the evaluation you receive comprehensive documentation, from the measurement protocol for the thermoelectric test to the investigation report for the microbiological test. In addition, if you pass the test you receive a certificate from Miele confirming that the disinfecting standard has been checked. If necessary, you can present this certificate to your health authority.
