These days celebrity tittle tattle can pass for news and it seems we can’t get enough of showbiz ‘stories’. We have recently learned that Tess Daly went on holiday as the Strictly scandal rages; there’s apparent trouble for Ed Sheeran after he posed for a selfie with Johnny Depp; and a Gogglebox participant has said his mobility scooter was blamed for a delayed flight.
One ‘story’ that has caught the eye though is Lily Allen’s revelation that she doesn’t know how to use a washing machine. Members of the singer and actress’s family have to step up and perform this chore. Apparently, she doesn’t mind ironing but laundry day sees her ‘taken over by the fear.’
Smart machines make you smile
Perhaps if she knew that many brands offer smart washing machines these days – genuinely useful features that make life easier and that can make you ‘smile’ – she might leap in to laundry. Most smart washing machines can pair with a phone app so you don’t even have to be in the same room as the appliance to start its programme. They can even tell you when the wash is done.
If that’s not your bag then you can control the machine with voice commands: “Hey, Google, wash my clothes.” Machines, via the app, can also tell you when maintenance is needed. Automatic programmes can take the guess work out of which cycle to use. You let it know the amount of laundry, the fabric type and how soiled it is and the machine will do the rest. And that has the added benefit of minimising energy use. A smart washing machine can let you know how much energy you are using and you can adjust your laundry routine and save money. Autodosing is another feature of some models which weigh the load and adjust the amount of detergent accordingly, helping you to take control of your costs, as well as saving worry and time.
German genius
We like Miele machines at Liver Laundry. And as you might expect from the German geniuses their machines are not just smart, they are intelligent, sustainably so. For example, the Miele@home app has a dedicated dashboard that tracks the water and energy consumption of your appliances after each cycle. At the end of each month, you’ll receive a personalised report summarising your usage.
The Miele@home app allows you to connect your Miele washing machine to your smart devices and control your washing machine remotely. You can pause, stop or start your cycles or see live updates on your device as you go with MieleControl. They have this innovation called M Touch, which allows you to configure your washing machine and select the right programme easily.
It’s found on the new Premium and Prestige W1 laundry range and they describe it as the pinnacle in ultimate laundry care, combining M Touch connectivity with optimum energy efficiency and convenience. The Wifi connectivity combined with their renowned PowerWash and TwinDos systems delivers perfect results from the palm of your hand.
Gorgeous and elegant
Miele’s M Touch interface is smart, simple and intuitive at every touchpoint, using the same taps and gestures on your washing machine that you’re used to on your smart device, with all functions and cycles at your fingertips. The large M Touch display on select Meile washing machines is similar to the screen you’ll find on a smart phone, with a gorgeous user interface and elegant glass finish.
Swipe, tap and follow intuitive menus to select a programme and store preferences. Well that’s Miele for you!
Smart Lily
The only thing that no one has figured out – perhaps with the exception of Lily Allen – is actually putting the clothes in the machine itself and taking them out again. Lily’s happy for her family ‘take her place’, which in itself is Miele-like genius. After all, she did once sing “you’ll find me in the studio and not in the kitchen”.
